Silence please!

After Star Wars and Game of Thrones we all know that movies and Dubrovnik are in love.

But did you know that 2019 will mark 100 years since first movie was filmed in Dubrovnik?

HI THERE!

Dubrovnik Walking Tours Natasha

Take a peek at my blog and find out something new about Dubrovnik every month.

In 2016 a group of young enthusiasts launched a campaign about movies and TV series filmed in Dubrovnik called Silence please. Most of them have experience in said industry on set of GOT, Star Wars, Robin Hood, DIG and many others. Their goal was to find more information about filming in our city seeing obvious lack of any synthesis.

Movies and Dubrovnik are in love

After two years of festival locals and their guests had opportunity to visit exhibition called “Movie and Dubrovnik are in Love”. It included great app used for watching clips from the movies with information where and when you could see it during the festival. Speaking of it, 18 movies filmed from 1939 to present were presented to public – some of them had their premiere in Dubrovnik after 40 years and some of them were never shown!

Something for everyone

If you are into different approach to movies you could engage in conversation during panel discussions held on impact of movie tourism in Dubrovnik and numerous other subjects. When it comes to kids (and your inner 6 year old!) they organized various workshops with interactive race through city. I will just politely remind you that you are allowed to run only if you are a kid because grownups in Dubrovnik have Pomalo philosophy and you can check it out in this blog post.

Festival 2018

This year festival is going to be held from March 4th to March 10th and will include many movies, exhibitions and workshops. I will definitely be there on March 6th to see exhibition of photos taken on set of all those movies called “Where have you been when they filmed”. With my modest experience on set of TV show DIG maybe I’ll find myself on one of those photos.

Silence please, we are rolling 😉

It is nice to learn a few words from the local language when travelling. Usually, it’s how to say hello, thank you and goodbye. Many times I had to explain that the Croatian language is not Russian and that we cannot understand each other.
