Dubrovnik Game of thrones tour

A Game of Thrones, published in 1996, is the first novel in A Song of Ice and Fire, a series of fantasy novels by American author George R. R. Martin. In a fantasy world, created by Martin, noble families are fighting for Iron Throne under the dictum that ‘all is fair in love in war’. In the words of the queen Cersei Lannister: “When you play the Game of Thrones, you win or you die“.

HBO started filming Game of Thrones Season 1 in 2009, while Dubrovnik found its place on the mystical map of Westeros as the capital of King’s Landing in Season 2. The story says that the production crew was searching for new filming locations in 2011 and one of the employees found pictures of Dubrovnik online. The rest is history.

DID YOU KNOW?

Dubrovnik was once the capital of the small medieval city-state called Republic of Dubrovnik. You can find a few bites of its history in my blog post.
